Piezo Objective Focus Scanner

Our Mipos series consists of a variety of piezo objective focus scanners that were developed for the fine adjustment of microscope objective lens and for adjusting the whole microscope nose piece via a piezo electrical actuator (MIPOS N100). The devices for a precise piezo objective positioning can be used with any type of microscope e.g. Zeiss, Olympus, Nikon or Leica. The high position resolution makes the series MIPOS especially well suited for "single photon" or "super resolution microscopy".

The piezo objective focus scanners found within the MIPOS series are made for high precision and accurate micro lens movement. The z-axis actuating system for precise piezo objective positioning are made for applications like single photon microscopy, laser scanning microscopy, confocal microscopy - in general - for all super resolution microscopy applications. The piezo objective focus scanner is able to move the micro objective lens with unique position repeatability in the sub nanometer range. The piezo system reacts immediately if the control signal is changed. This offers high speed and high dynamic performance. Therefore the piezo focus z-axis positioner also known as a scanner system is ideal for autofocus or other microscopy applications.

The piezo objective focus scanner series MIPOS can be used for a upgrading an existing microscope. Via a set of thread adapters the series MIPOS can be easily integrated into any standard microscope. This is independent of the microscope being used in a standard or inverted microscopy application.

With the use of our Lens Flex Adapter and clamp ring you can easily mount the MIPOS system onto the microscope. Due to the small size of the piezo focus lens scanner MIPOS 20 and piezo objective positioner MIPOS 100, no other threads beside the MIPOS are blocked. A special version enables you to work in the upside down (UD) position on inverted microscopes. All standard threads for Zeiss, Leica, Nikon, Olympus etc. are available for the top and bottom sides of the MIPOS system.

Technical Principal:

A piezoelectric actuator is mounted in a unique lever transmission design of flexure hinges. The small motion of the actuator, caused by an analog control signal, is transferred to a special point. The sophisticated monolithic guidance design of the solid flexure hinges means the trajectory is free of mechanical play and friction - a feature of all Piezosystem Jena stages.

Due to this technology, the motion is parallel to the optical beam. The resolution is very high and, in practice, only limited by the voltage noise of the power supply which is why Piezosystem Jena can only guarantee high accuracy by using Piezosystem Jena electronics. All systems of the MIPOS series can be equipped with an integrated positioning feedback sensor to check and control the high accuracy of these nanopositioning systems.
